Finance graduates cannot deliver in the VUCA world without the knowledge and understanding of the macro economy and government policies. What can be a more stimulating agent for the economy than the Union Budget, when the entire financial market reacted with every word from the finance minister. TAPMI, Manipal leaves no stone unturned in imparting experiential learning. Like every year, in context with the Union Budget 2018, Manthan 2018 was organized, on 10th March. This year marked the 4th edition of the annual budget conclave and the Finance Forum hosted 8 prominent guests from various fields of finance. The two-day event, brings together Economists CXO’s, Bankers, Regulators, fund managers and students to discuss recent trends, emerging issues challenges and opportunities in the industry.

Unique Events:

Student Managed Investment Course (SMIC), is a curriculum where students are given real money and they make investments in the real financial markets. During Manthan each team gets an opportunity to present a summary of their learning which is judged by an eminent panel of senior capital market professionals. The events aim to create a platform for finance students to showcase their knowledge and network with senior industry professionals. This year 10 teams from PGP-2 presented their investment portfolio, shared their rationale behind the investments and answered to the tough queries by the panel.

 

Arthneeti, is an intra-college event which began a week before Manthan-2018. The first round had online quiz that judged the students based on their knowledge in finance and budget. 12 teams selected from the first round had to present an analysis of the Union Budget 2018, before a panel of faculties. Five teams who made it to the next round, had to play the role of finance minister of India and present a sector-specific budget allocation for the next 5 years, based on a set of goals. The final presentation was judged by the guests and the winner and the runners up were selected based on the rationale behind their decisions.

 

Numerous interactive sessions were organised like the Friday Night Series where students and guests from the industry interacted and discussed on the current scenario and trends. The event was a grand success with a lot of take away for budding managers. Finance Forum with the collaboration of other student committees had successfully managed the event to enrich the finance enthusiasts across all horizon.
